I’m thrilled to share a series of posters I illustrated for Strand Book Store in New York celebrating Banned Books Week (Sept. 22nd-28th)! I’ll be posting one of these illustrations every day this week just to remind you that banned books are the best books. Thanks to art director Lisa Jee!
The Crass logo represented an amalgamation of several “icons of authority,” including the Christian Cross, the swastika, and the Union Flag, combined with a two-headed Ouroboros to symbolize the idea that power will eventually destroy itself. Illustration by Ian Wright
The long list of controversies before the tournament’s start included mass evictions, violent protests, police brutality and construction worker deaths. But now that the party is over, the buzz about the games is mostly good, and the problems that the media once covered with such concern are slowly being swept under the rug.
